We are lucky enough to have a school parents, teachers and friends association (PTFA) and everybody in the Wiveliscombe Primary School community plays a part. The PTFA is run by a committee of parents, friends and teachers. The key members change regularly at the annual general meeting (AGM) in the autumn term, although everyone is still welcome to get involved at any point throughout the year.

Raising funds to enhance the school experience

The primary aim of Wiveliscombe PTFA is to raise funds to enhance our children’s school experience.  At the start of every school year the PTFA pay an amount per student to the school for teachers to use at their discretion.  In the past money has been donated towards school trips such as @Bristol, Theatre trips, visits to historic homes and museums.

Contributions have also been made towards school equipment including the play area on the school field and the sensory garden. For the last few years the committee have also managed to pay for the use of the local outdoor (heated!) swimming pool so the children are able to use this lovely facility in the summer term.

Activities run by the PTFA

Activities that the committee run vary from year to year, however the biggest event of any year is the annual summer fair! This event is by far the most popular, not just for the fantastic fundraising opportunity, but also for the entertainment. With lots of activities including a large water slide, an assault course, lots of games, stalls, performances from local groups and of course, a raffle.

The PTFA have also held Christmas fairs with Christmas stalls and crafts for the whole family.

The children enjoy the discos, non-uniform days, crafts competitions, Easter egg hunts and everyone loves a cake sale. Don’t forget the parents; they have been known to enjoy adult discos, fashion shows and regular quiz nights. Parents can also relax with a cup of tea or coffee and a cake at parents’ evenings.

The PTFA also organises the ‘Bag 2 School’ fundraising scheme where parents can donate unwanted clothing in return for money towards the school. Not all these events are about raising money but about having fun and socialising with friends both old and new.

Get involved with the PTFA

The PTFA is always looking for new members, new ideas and activities for all to have fun and raise money for the children to enhance their learning experience.

If you are new to the school or would like more information on how to get involved then please speak to a current member of the PTFA committee. This information can be found on the school notice board, from your class teacher, from the head, Mr Duncan (who is an active member) or speak to Mrs Hardy at reception who will be happy to help.
